From abastract to figurative, from black on white to colour, from paint to pencil, from small to large, from past to present, from an old shed to an Architect designed studio!
Ian was born in London and brought up on The Isle of Man where he was trained by Norman Sayle at art college there.
During the 60s he developed an interest in free form music and its relationship to the visual arts. Live action painting and music events ensued, the avant garde albums recorded then, still collected today. The paintings were bold, dynamic and free, echoes of which can be seen in recent work.
The Shires Landscapes began with a move to Oxfordshire. His early landscapes are described as abstraction in a figurative context having bold colour and rich texture. Recent inspiration came from memories of Manx thatched cottages, one of which is was a childhood home.
He has exhibited widely accross The Shires and was one of a hundred artists chosen to exhibit at The Royal Institute of Oil Painters. A prestigious Spink Ledger prize was awarded for a landscape. He also appeared on prime time Japanese T. V.
His work is in public and private collections worldwide.
He continues to produce work as an artist and musician to this day.
