I am in 2 group exhibitions, venues 404 and 407.
Venue 404 is a collection of abstract pieces inspired by recent big changes in my career and life. Each piece is mixed media - paint, crayon, ink, pen - with built up texture. I started each piece with a blank page and painted straight on with no drawing first - using my emotions to guide me in my mark making. These pieces were created during a period of great change, refection and growth and these emotions are captured in the marks created. The titles reflect this state.
Venue 407 is a collection of life drawings and portraits from Botley Drawing group. We meet every Monday night with a model and also have a few surprises on display for the exhibition!!!
I am an Oxford based abstract artist who uses different paints, chalks and sticks, inks and charcoal and pens. My work is inspired by my world – my experiences of nature and the world around me as well as my own healing from trauma. It’s an emotional expression that makes me feel more grounded. I started painting a few years ago when I was off work due to burning out. I am a mental health nurse as well as an artist and I use creativity for my own recovery but also support others with their recovery using creativity. I work as a freelance artist working therapeutically with different groups locally as well as individuals of all ages. My own experiences of how creativity can enrich healing has driven my passion to share this and engage and connect with others using art. Considering the environmental impact of my art is important to me and I often paint on found wood (I love going through a skip!) or use canvases multiple times. This means some of my work has a very raw finish and is usually unframed as this imperfect quality is important for me to share as it represents how I try to function in my own life – there is no such thing as perfect, so why should my art be perfect?!
