I have always enjoyed making things. I started with dressmaking, then woodwork classes. I was introduced to clay in my mid-twenties, and some years later, did a City and Guilds in Ceramics, which was invaluable. While I was working I did not have much time for pottery, but never lost my enthusiasm, and now I am retired I have time to explore, experiment, and improve.
My pots are stoneware, which is strong and hardwearing. Most of them are practical and useful, but attractive too. I am interested in shape and colour, basing much of my work on medieval pottery. I have done hundreds of glaze tests, and am still searching for that irresistible glaze! I fire in an electric kiln, which isn’t the best for exciting results, but I get interesting effects with overlapping glazes.
