Merry Christmas from Artweeks

As Christmas approaches, pop-up exhibitions and open studio events offer a refuge from the High Street, a quiet space for enjoyment, reflection and delight, and – for those seeking unique and unusual Christmas gifts – an alternative to the mass-produced merchandise.

And there’s something special about an original piece of art, jewellery, pottery or wood which is truly one of a kind, hand-crafted with a rare imagination and skill. You will never see another just like it, and yet choosing an original needn’t be expensive and not only does the piece personify the individuality of artist, your own character shines through your choice too.

Furthermore, as well as carrying away a picture or piece that’s captivated you, by buying directly from an artist, you also carry away a trilogy of tales: • the story of its inspiration • the story of creation • & the story of how you found it and were captivated.

If there was an artist whose creations you loved this summer, then why not visit the Artweeks website to see where they are showing this month – or even book an appointment to see their work. And in our December newsletter you can read about printmaker Gerry Cole's inspiration, and hear our recommendations for spots to visit for great art this month in Oxfordshire.

Two Artweeks members, Graham Lester and Sara Withers, have also had great coverage in this month's OX magazine and you can read this here in 'A colourful countdown to Christmas'.
