'Material Conversations' explores the idea that making baskets and sculptural forms is a conversation between the maker and their materials. It considers the possibilities that arise when artists and craftsmen expand the traditional skills and techniques associated with basket making, in all its forms, to explore the potential of new materials, innovative ways of working and the influence of conceptual ideas.
Oxfordshire Basketmakers was founded in 1999 by a group of local makers and enthusiasts. Today it has 100 members in Oxfordshire and beyond. The aim is to promote basketry through workshops, talks, exhibitions and study visits.
