My works this year reflect new explorations in both subject and technique, while retaining a close connection with what's important to me in my approach to painting. Shapes of individual objects and the shapes they make together, and the refraction of light on landscape - in particular, on water - are vital. The relationship of human figures within their setting, and the way they move within that setting, tell a story.
Experiments with different approaches mean some paintings start with a precise drawing, while others are more free and instinctive. Thus the paintings range from figurative to something more abstract.
Oxford continues to provide rich inspiration, with as much varied life on its waterways as its streets. The soft golden buildings of Cotswolds towns and the majesty and clear light of Scotland's east coast feature too, as do scenes of Florence and Tuscany, vibrant and full of architectural, natural and cultural riches.
