I have always been drawn to ceramics. The responsive nature of clay is something that appeals to me, & complements the spontaneous nature of my work. I rarely begin a piece with a specific plan in mind. Having grown up between the hard, angular streets of Central London; & the soft, leafy greens of the countryside, I straddle these two worlds of rigidity and fluidity. What is central to my work is a desire to capture a moment of fluidity or texture that takes me back to a recognisable, observed moment in nature. This is a bit of a contradiction, as something that is fluid is never static. The natural forms upon which I draw, create a kind of visual language, allowing me to express without words, the fundamental essence & emotions behind the image I have in my mind. I hope my work captures this motion - there is always a drip of glaze to be found sliding or a bead of porcelain tracing the curve of a piece.
