I spend a lot of time in the countryside – living on the Ridgeway – walking, taking photographs and sketching.
I work in my studio extracting the essence of the landscape and interpreting the colour in order to create a contemporary evocative image. My starting point is always colour and this is also informed by my background in textile design and travels abroad.
I also do life drawing regularly and consider this to be an essential discipline in my process. I find it difficult but am often pleased with the perseverance to get an image right. This may contradict my desire to paint more loosely but the drawing keeps the balance for me.
This year I have been privileged to be accepted as a member of the Oxford Art Society.
