164 Helen MacRitchie OCG, WOA

Region: Thame – South & Vale
Artform: Textiles
I am a textile artist working from my home studio in the village of Waterstock, taking inspiration from the detail found in nature and science.
I generally base my work on wet felted wool, adding other fibres with hand or free machine embroidery to create layered textural surfaces. My work takes many forms; from contemporary art hangings and sculptures for exhibition, to functional handbags and accessories. My design work is abstract in nature, employing mark making and allowing motif creation to develop from drawing and printing research.
I have solo exhibitions and also exhibit with Untethered Fibre Artists in Australia, and Prism Textiles, seam Collective and the Oxfordshire Craft Guild in UK.
In my studio you’ll find a selection of functional pieces – felted bags, scarves, purses and cards, and artworks – textile hangings and framed work. As it is a working studio, I will probably be sewing or designing with many pieces in process for you to see.
You’ll find me in Park Farmyard area, opposite the Waterstock riding stables and training centre.
