I have been entranced by the process of linocutting since retiring from teaching art in a secondary school. It does require some mental acrobatics, planning the shapes, colours and removing the surface by cutting away areas or small shapes to build up the image. The final effect can be hugely exhilarating and sometimes a surprise.
Painting is pleasurable in a different way, being gradual and instinctive; developing the images does allow for a change of plan. It’s possible to obliterate, whereas there’s absolutely no turning back with a linocut!
