'Ceiling Crawler Terrace', wood, metal, UV resin, PLA

Region: Burford – North & West

Artform: Sculpture, Wood

My practice explores the relationship between man and machine, and how we depend so completely on technology to the point of excess. I explore this in a tactile way, using the design languages of the late 19th to early 20th Centuries and influences from multiple contexts including 1950’s retrofuturism, Archigram and Chris Burden.

My work is obsessive, driven by my passion for craft and detail. I am particularly interested in wood and metal and in my latest work I explore this further, subverting traditional expectations – using woodworking techniques on metal and vise-versa.

I question functionality and the excessive nature of humans, translating these themes in a surreal and absurd manner. My work has moved from kinetic towards a static expression, which has allowed me to question functionality further. How far does it have to function for the audience to fill in the gaps?
