Paintings, Peace and Pathways – plus Parking

This exhibition focuses on my favourite outdoor things: downland walks, garden flowers and timeless summers on the Helford River.

Landscapes often have a pathway leading into the scene, a footpath, track, river or steps – though I only just realised this. There’s a theme of quiet stillness, inspired by painting in a secluded cottage garden studio. But with flashes of action, with flying barn owls and running hares.

Colours are harmonious and often muted, contrasting dark and light, with bright touches. There’s textured brushstrokes, subtle depth of tone and stylised simplification, from wax mixed into the oil paint.

Pricing is realistic for paintings that are individual and seldom on sale. There’ll be even more affordable exhibits too: cards, prints, sale pictures from a previous show, framed studies for bigger pictures, and the hare image on a very limited number of mugs.

I always think about a painting finding its wall space. But beyond interior decoration, it’s about mood, such as calm moments in summer, sitting beside Cornish water or walking into the glow on the hill fort near home.
