Exhibition information

I was born and brought up on the west coast of Scotland and have always had a love of nature and the countryside. However, my first memories of ‘Art’ was going round the Kelvin Grove Art Gallery in Glasgow with my father where I was intrigued by all the classical sculpture, and this was to later influence my work.

I went to Camberwell School of Art in London where I studied graphic design leading to my professional life as a graphic designer first in London, where I worked in different design groups and businesses, and then in Oxford where I started my own small design company Oxford Art and Design.

I retired from Graphic design a few years ago and this gave me the opportunity to explore my first love – sculpture. I found some wonderful classes at the Phoenix studio near Thame and have never looked back. Sculpture is my passion. I love working in 3D, and clay, for me, is the best medium as it is so forgiving. I love being able to build something up, both adding to it and taking bits away as the piece dictates and I often find that the piece takes on a life of its own as it progresses.

Heads and portrait busts have always fascinated me as I love the challenge of expression and personality, but now I am also exploring smaller, utilitarian pieces which allows me to expand into the quirkier side of myself.
