Exhibition information
This will be my second Artweeks exhibition, thank you to everyone who visited last year! I work primarily in two different mediums, making detailed pencil drawings capturing tiny details and textures, often of animals and insects, and also colourful embroidered mixed media textile art in a more illustrative style.
I’m inspired by bright sunset colours and combining patterns in fun and interesting ways, but I also love monochrome art and the look of pure pencil drawing. The intention behind my art is to convey how beautiful the seemingly simple things in life are, when we take time to slow down and notice them. I’m particularly fascinated by bugs and animals, focusing on how different each individual creature is. A big part of my process involves observing how they interact with their environment, and making many sketches to work from in my studio.
The exhibition picture for the Artweeks booklet I’ve chosen this year is quite an old one, and it’s lovely for me to see how much my drawing style has developed since I drew it, but as it still captures the mischievous nature of the subject, I couldn’t resist!
There are several artists sharing the converted barn gallery, with a range of different art on display including painting, drawing, textiles, jewellery, ceramics and award-winning photography! Busby K Studio and Gallery is part of Timbers Farm and is easily accessed directly off Timbers Lane, Nuffield, with ample free parking. We’re close to both The Maker Space and National Trust Nuffield Place.
Artist information
I love to make meticulous pencil drawings, capturing tiny details and textures. I also combine freehand machine embroidery with colours, patterns, and embellishments that grab my attention. My main source of inspiration is nature, particularly insects, animals and flowers. I try to work in an environmentally friendly way, using repurposed fabrics and embellishments, and recycled thread where possible, and growing pollinator flowers to attract the bees and butterflies to my garden, which often feature in my work.
