Exhibition information

This will be the 4th year that I exhibit at the St Mary’s Church in Adderbury near Banbury, in North Oxfordshire.  I am really looking forward to the week mixing with all the lovely dedicated artists and makers. Also talking to the general public and showing my art work.

My work includes landscapes, still life, abstract and you will also find me doing the occasional portrait. My work normally ranges from A4 to A2 in size. I like to paint on the bigger and on the bold side!

I am inspired by everyday things; people, the world around us, including nature and animals and of course also other artists.

I love using colour to express myself and in the visual representation of my work.

I work in acrylic mainly as I find it very versatile and love working in thick paint using layers and sometimes apply texture. You also may find the odd watercolour and or pastels painting which are very different to working with acrylic. Watercolour you normally apply thinly and it is a very immediate effect. You can also see this in my acrylic work as it is applied more immediately rather than layering the paint. I enjoy using different effects such as wet in wet, dry paint and scumbling is used on things like the skin on my portraits.

Many people have complimented my work and love my individual style saying things like; “I love the movement and energy in your work”, “great use of colour,” “amazing work, you are so talented” . And my lovely, most recent art teacher says she loves my work and has even used the word,” exquisite”!

Artist information

Born locally and brought up and live in the village of Adderbury, I am mainly a country girl. Although attending college in Oxford and starting a few different university courses in the city of Sunderland, London and Winchester where I have mixed with a range of people. I also appreciate the complex urban cities and cosmopolitan life.

I have always loved painting and drawing since I can remember.  I did want to pursue my more physically, actively creative side so as a young adult I tried to get into the dance world. Art never left me and many times in life I have turned back to it whether I am being happy or sad, it never fails me to be happier.   I experienced some very bad patches of health in my mid 20’s and getting out a canvas or doing drawings on my sketch pad or creating a collage would really lift my spirits and able me to zone into my safe happy place. It still does that for me today!

I started putting my work up for sale at a student exhibition at the local art centre after my teacher very much encouraged me to do so.  I vaguely plan my work particularly the composition on paper and it evolves on canvas (or thick paper) and with a mix of artistic vision, passion and my perspective and interpretation on subject a piece comes together.  Other times my work are very immediate almost a reaction of my feelings and inner dialogue.

I also work part time with children as a play practitioner and love helping the children to express their creative side.

I am inspired by artists such as Van Gogh and have done interpretative work after looking at his pieces.

Abstract is also a great love of mine, originally inspired by many visits to the Tate Modern in my earlier life. Some of my pieces are abstract or semi abstract.

I have also done a painting of a beautiful swan inspired by love and relationships.

I am interested in many aspects of human life, our relationships and the times we see and experience around us. Art really helps me to stay grounded and is great therapy for my soul!
