I’m Tabitha Grove and I’m an artist, designer, costumier and performer with a rich and diverse background in the arts that has given me the most wonderful foundation from which to develop my own work. I paint and I sew, I print and I fold, I draw and I write. And it all has one common goal - to tell stories. Whether they be big epic adventures or tiny observations, whether they be my own or from those around me, stories make us who we are, and they help us understand what makes us, us. Most often, I’m inspired by moments around me, the ones that make me stop. Having recently moved from North Yorkshire, I'm lucky enough to have a new muse in the Oxfordshire landscape.
I believe not only in stories but in play. If I'm not playing, if I’m not finding peace and joy and fun in making my work, it doesn’t get made. I believe art doesn’t need torture to exist.
My wall art often takes the shape of Inks, prints, drawings and paintings. The subjects that inspire me change from moment to moment but they nearly always spring from nature and the way our environment influences us. One subject that I’ve come to be known for is that of the murmuration - the name given to the incredible shapes a gathering of starlings can make, often at the very beginning or end of the day. My work depicts their ethereal, dance-like movement and my technique continues to evolve with every bird painted.
My time as a costumier, trained at the Northern College of Costume with a career in TV, Film and Theatre has led to a fascination with the interaction of art and our bodies. Sometimes this manifests as life drawing and pointillist miniatures and sometimes it manifests as clothes-making. But this is a clothes-making I like to keep slow and meditative.
I use the most beautiful quality linen and threads as well as reclaimed materials to make entirely hand sewn, embroidered and sometimes painted garments that envelop you in the craft and calm the body and heart deserves.
I’m also very happy to work on commission and have been lucky enough to work on some of the most meaningful, beautiful projects with the most wonderful people.

So come visit my beautiful little 17th century cottage and sometimes-workspace in Wootton where you’ll find me, my art and a very warm welcome indeed.

There is plenty of on-street parking in the village. There are no steps into the house but the entrance is very narrow.
