My involvement with the art world and the desire to paint has come late in life, allowing me to take full advantage of available time exploring amazing locations, both at home and abroad which have often become the focus of my work. Recent exhibition events at local venues have both assisted and accelerated my interest in painting.
Originally from the Sussex coast, I now reside around the Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire border where the involvement with local art groups has helped build my confidence using watercolour, acrylics, and oils in presenting landscapes, coastal scenes and elements of wildlife.
I have attended workshops in person with watercolour artists Charles Evans and Matthew Palmer at the SAA headquarters in Newark. More locally with portrait artist Peter Keegan at his studio in Buckinghamshire, David Meeks in Launton and tutorials with the Oxfordshire based watercolour artist John Somerscales at the Ashmolean Museum.
During 2023 my watercolour composition of the 'Spanish Steps in Bloom' reached the first round of SAA 'newcomer' artist of the year for the street scene and buildings category.
Memberships include; Visual Artists Association (VAA), Supporting All Artists (SAA), Bicester Art Network (BAN) and more recently, Church Lane Gallery (CLG) in Banbury.
Where possible I try to help local charities and have contributed to art events supporting 'The SeeSaw' children's bereavement charity, the 'Hummingbird Centre at Launton' and Bicester Autism. I have also attended a privately sponsored annual 'Garden Painting' opportunity at Kingsbridge Farm in Buckinghamshire, with the Artist Peter Keegan, in aid of cancer vaccination research.
Where possible I particularly favour the practice of upcycling contemporary, traditional and classical frames, sourcing these through various charity outlets, as well as constructing my own.
I am currently enjoying portraiture and still life with oils, en plein air for landscapes using watercolour as well as seascapes and cityscapes in Acrylics .I have exhibited during Oxfordshire ArtWeeks 2023, and I look forward to sharing future exhibitions, including Oxfordshire Artweeks 2024 with fellow artists of both the Bicester Art Network and the Church Lane Gallery.
