I grew up on the wild coast of northern California where we were sort of pioneers keeping animals and a garden for food, and building our house from the concrete foundations to the redwood shake roof. So I guess I come by using my hands to make things fairly naturally. I love being part of the ancient tradition of forming from the earth vessels for people to use. My pieces are thrown on the wheel. Line and shape are utmost in my mind when I go to make a piece, so when glazing I tend to be fairly minimalist. I use stoneware clay which is fired to quite a high temperature. The resulting pieces are very robust and can be used and enjoyed for many years.
During City Week I will be exhibiting with 11 other members of the Oxfordshire Craft Guild in St. Barnabas Church in Jericho.
During North Week Iwill be joining a group of 8 local artists in a new venue for Artweeks 2025. We are exhibiting in a marquee at Applegarth Nurseries Chipping Norton. There will be a refreshment area with seating, plenty of free parking, and toilet amenities. The other artists exhibiting there are:
Caroline Chappell-an established artist, known locally for her striking semi abstract landscape and flower paintings.
Nadia Birkbeck who produces abstracts landscape paintings taking inspiration from the Oxfordshire countryside.
Carol Edwards makes handcrafted silver jewellery and semi precious stone pieces
Clare Goodall makes beautiful mosaics for both the home and garden and will be demonstrating at the exhibition
Maureen Thorburn paints energetic contemporary pieces and abstract Still Life.
Sue Lindon is a ceramicist who makes stoneware sculptural figures and beautiful, delicate bowls using casting slip.
Ros Ingram creates unique sculptures by combining brightly glazed porcelain with retro recycled items.
