Contemporary expressive oil painting studio in the Cotswolds
I am interested in sharing my observations of my immediate surrounds and perceptions of the senses through the medium of colour, gesture and paint.
My thinking is centred on the activity of applying paint, and I feel as well as think through it.
My cherished studio is at the old Calf Pens at Friars Court in Clanfield, Oxfordshire, UK. The studio is part of Friar's Court, a historic house and estate located on the edge of Clanfield heading towards Faringdon. My workspace is tucked away in a corner of the working farm and historic estate, next to a local florist and pottery studio, surrounded by interesting people and beautiful gardens.
The studio is filled with the smell of oil paint. You find big heaps of paint on my palette, stacks of art books and seductive colour-pops in the form of collected mementos, cards with dried clumps of discarded paints scraped from surfaces, small colour studies and fresh flowers.
My abstracted paintings contain a sense of nature and of florals but are not depicting a specific flower or element in nature.
The joy and pleasure is in a swath of paint that leads you into the painting, in marks that have a physicality to them, a dominance then offset with some flirtatious flicks of colour seducing you to a smile.
I will be exhibiting original artworks in my studio, full of easels, paints, brushes, canvases and paintings.
If you do have any questions, I am happy to answer them, show you my tools and talk you through my working process.
The on site pottery studio and school as well as the local florist are also open and plenty free parking is available.
Turn into drive past both white gates and turn right to find me.
