In the Japanese art of flower arranging empty space is as much a part of the composition as the flowers and branches. ‘Ma’ refers to the energy held within this ‘empty’ space and our arrangements this year celebrate this crucial aspect of Japanese culture. In a time of increasing demands, requiring quick reactions, Ikebana reminds us to slow down, to fill our time and space, not with things but with meaning and purpose.
