Alongside five other professional artists working in several media, Martin presents in this show a selection of sculptures in carved stone. The works are figurative or abstract, the latter often drawing on organic forms. The figurative work sometimes takes its starting point in mythology – the Minotaur displayed in the Artweeks festival guide is an example. As much as painting, sculpture is a medium that works with light and shade as well as colour, and the stone is brought to a high finish to exploit these qualities.
Martin has been working as a professional sculptor for over twenty years, having learned technique on courses in England and Italy.
