Despite a life long love for all things shiny and an insuppressible creative streak, I have come to making jewellery a bit later in life. After initially starting with more standard forms of silver smithing, I have found my passion in making sand cast pieces with cast in place gemstones. This method, ancient in it origins, helps me create organic, tactile and imperfectly perfect jewellery. (Think ancient treasures and gemstones appearing from within the metal). Each piece is made from recycled sterling silver, cast individually by hand and using gemstones that are lab created.
For me though, making jewellery is not only a creative process and a source of peace and joy, it is a means of story telling. Each piece has a tale to tell - with a focus on celebrating us wonderful women, our feminine energy as well as our links to each other and our heritage. Sonas Mòr means "great happiness" in Gaelic. Making jewellery certainly brings me great happiness and I hope wearing it will bring happiness to you too.
This is my first Art Weeks and I am lucky to be exhibiting my jewellery in a new venue on Witney High Street with fellow new comers Patricia Okura - Okura Design (Textiles) and Kase Chauhan - The Caffeinated Hippo (mixed media/painting).
Do come and have a blether!
(Please note that the venue is 57-59 High Street (Olive Tree Services) - right in the corner next to the light shop!). We are open daily between 11-6.
