210 David Marsh

Region: Abingdon – South & Vale
Artform: Photography
The photographs of common species of birds and some other wildlife were mainly taken in and around Abingdon area – the river Thames, the river Ock, Radley Lakes, BBOWT sites and my back garden- but also further afield in the UK. The colour photographs show wildlife in close-up, as well as in their wider habitat. Bio-diversity remains under threat in this country – numbers of some of the species photographed here have declined rapidly in the last few decades. Some bird species once very common are now highlighted as Birds of Conservation Concern aka the UK Red List for birds, a list compiled by a coalition of the UK’s leading bird conservation and monitoring organisations. These birds include; Common starling, House martin, Swift, Greenfinch, House sparrow, Tree sparrow, Yellowhammer, Cirl bunting, Linnet, Skylark, Shag and Herring gull.
