Pause and Look - celebrating still life
I am really thrilled to be involved with OAW for the first time this year; exhibiting my paintings alongside Suzanne Abell’s beautiful sculptures at Fitch & Fellows in the heart of Thame town centre.
While learning traditional methods of classical painting at Edinburgh Atelier of Fine Art, I have really enjoyed experimenting in my home studio this Spring – creating a fresh series of still life paintings with a more contemporary feel.
Using ‘high chroma’ pigments and cropped compositions I have been exploring the beauty of shapes and the colour of shadows and reflections on everyday objects.
Painting in any genre is joyfully absorbing; but still life in particular allows us all to pause, to really slow down and look. Objects within a still life composition are more deeply observed than we manage in our daily lives and I enjoy playing with the idea of ‘value’; finding and presenting beauty in the mundane or overlooked.
All my work is painted in oil on canvas board or dibond and is available to purchase framed or unframed in ‘easy to take home’ sizes (mostly 35x35cms or 30x30cms). Limited-edition prints of the originals will also be available.
