As an artist I like to discover the nature or history of a place through its shapes, forms and textures. This inspiration can range from the rich architectural wood and marble carvings in local historic buildings, to the natural forms in the Chilterns countryside. Buildings of the past provide a treasure trove of antiquity which I sketch and arrange into dramatic compositions. These I enjoy painting in water colour or rendering in graphite pencil. Many pieces have been inspired by visits to Stonor Park, Greys Court and Basildon.
Recently I have enjoyed the many natural visitors to the garden. Squirrels and garden birds have focused my interest in nature and it’s many shapes and forms, which I captured in graphite pencil.
