"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream" C.S. Lewis.
I've had a passion for wood all of my life, but only recently felt the guiding hand of my grandfather, Master Cabinetmaker at Gillows of Lancaster, on my shoulder. Leaving an office job during the pandemic, I found my calling working with my hands, wielding chainsaws, power and hand tools to transform fallen trees into sculptures.
I’m a member of The Oxford Sculptors Group and also exhibit during Oxfordshire Artweeks, near my home town of Watlington. Demonstrating my craft at Country Shows has been a very positive way of connecting with people and I always enjoy discussing anything and everything countryside-related.
My varied designs are inspired by local flora and fauna, and continue to evolve. My best work is in cedar, hemlock and other soft sustainably-sourced woods, which I trade or but from friendly tree surgeons and land owners. I also have a few favourite saw mills when I require a specific species or size of wood for a commission.
I do undertake local commissions and welcome any enquiries to: Andrew@treetopcarvings.com
