I am finally finding my voice and style as a land- and seascape painter specialising in small canvas oils. I have a background in textiles and so painting is a relatively new medium for me; I began to experiment just before the pandemic with no previous experience of oil and have participated in many workshops and classes since, to work on my technique and to find my ‘voice’. My degree was in textile and fashion design, during which I interned with Kenzo and after which I had a career as a knitwear designer. Throughout my life, I have had ‘busy fingers’, always doing something woolly like crochet and knitting as my ‘zone out space’, and I love making or adapting clothes, usually just for me but sometimes for my daughter. I got back into life drawing several years ago and this led to a resurgence of a desire to draw and paint. I took the plunge under expert guidance and found that I love it. I draw inspiration from places I visit, which in recent years has included Japan, Spain, Jordan, South Africa and the Antipodes, but friends also know to take photos of dramatic skies when they’re travelling. I regularly get inspiration delivered to my WhatsApp inbox! As well as selling at independent art fairs and exhibitions, including Artweeks in Oxfordshire, I take commissions to turn photos of beloved land- and seascapes into oil paintings.
