Artist information

Art is a serious passion for me, I have other passions for example swimming, but creating art, whether painting, drawing, collage etc., this is my primary reason for getting out of bed every day, that and having to feed our four cats. I have an MA in printmaking and have studied under a number of wonderful artists including Oliver Bevan, Roy Ray, and Ashley Hanson.

Exhibition information

My work is generally semi-abstract, with references to the actual subject matter, even if they are not obvious. I combine observation and my personal feelings about the subject to create artworks that are filled with colour, immediacy and energy. My inspiration comes from the outside landscape around me.

“I usually explore places and landscapes, from a flattened aerial perspective. I like some grittiness in the landscape. Whatever “it” is that inspires me, I need to have a strong emotional response to “it” – even if it is dislike.”

My inspiration comes from the outside landscape around me.

I have two main subjects at the moment:- Pools – “As a lifelong swimmer and ex water polo player, swimming pools have always been wonderful places for me especially if they are outdoors, as well of course, as the sea. In Cornwall there are two outdoor pools that have inspired me in particular: – the tidal sea water swimming pool in Bude, and the Lido in Penzance which as well as having a large seawater pool has a fabulous little geothermal pool as well. The Bude pool is fed by the sea at high tide, it is over 45m long and quite elemental as it is built into the cliff face. The Lido in Penzance is more contained and the memories of floating in the geothermal pool in the freezing wind and rain surrounded by the art deco design, with the added plus of the sound of the sea all around, are also inspiring”.

Rocks – “My latest series of rock and landscape paintings are based on the amazing rock formations, landscapes, colours and stunning unspoilt vistas seen on a wonderful road trip taken in April 2024 in the USA, where we visited several of the National Parks, including Arches, Canyonlands, Monument Valley, Bryce Canyon and of course the Grand Canyon”.
