Exhibition information
My work is concerned and inspired by themes of both place / space and also and well-being. My dissertation in support of my Masters in Fine art at Oxford Brookes University was based on Liminality and Critical spatial theory.
My current art practice is diverse, as I feel creativity is rarely restricted to one genre or medium.
Over the past few years I have produced a series of collagraph prints concerned with ‘refuge spaces’. These spaces can be physical ,social, psychological or spiritual.
I have produced a series of collagraph prints around 2 major projects, exploring Lindisfarne Tidal Refuges and also the Allotment/ Tool shed. Allotments are green refuges from our busy urban and suburban lives and contribute to a distinctive layered landscape and sense of place .
In parallel, I have expanded my painting practice in acrylic painting to a variety of themes and to the use various materials including collage, mixed media, and assembled objects. Abstracted forms, motifs, marks and textures are the unifying expression of many of my artworks. Most recently art practice projects have been inspired by travelling to Venice and Egypt, generating new colour palettes and the representation of the passing of time. Underlying many compositions are building details ,materials, interiors, structures and a fascination for form.
A skill in abstract figurative work has also recently evolved as a result of attending regular life drawing classes.
