Valerie Mead OCG – portfolio
Contact the artist
Valerie designs and makes a range of contemporary jewellery in silver and coloured golds. Her designs have simple clean cut lines and are inspired by an interest in architecture, man-made artefacts and the sea. She makes easily wearable pieces in lightly textured silver often with delicate details in rose gold. She works the surface of the silver with indented lines and marks, and makes tiny gold rivets to add a colour contrast. Valerie also makes wedding rings and special pieces to commission.
She has a degree from Sheffield Poly School of Art and Design, and a Goldsmiths’ Company Graduate apprenticeship, and was jeweller-in-residence at South Hill Park Arts Centre in Berkshire.
She currently works in a former punt-builders workshop in Oxford alongside other artists and craftsmen. She has exhibited and sold her work in galleries around the UK and has regularly taken part in the Goldsmiths’ Fair, Dazzle and Art in Action. Her work is in various collections including Green College Oxford, Sheffield Assay Office and the National Museum of Scotland.
The Edith Road Workshops has provided artists and craftspeople with unique and lovely creative spaces to work overlooking Hinksey Park in South Oxford for over 40 years.
