Artist information
The Sylva Foundation is an environmental charity dedicated to supporting sustainable forestry, thriving woodlands, and the responsible use of home-grown timber in the UK. Founded in 2009, its mission is to nurture a strong connection between people and trees — combining science, education, and enterprise to promote the long-term stewardship of forests.
From its base at the Sylva Wood Centre, the Foundation supports craftspeople, designers, and small businesses working with sustainable timber, linking the management of forests to the making of wood products.
The on site Wood School bridges the gap between education and the wood industry. It is inspiring and educating the next generation of designers, makers, consumers and woodland owners in the value of home-grown timber.
Exhibition information
The Sylva Foundation Wood Centre, located near Long Wittenham in Oxfordshire, is a hub for innovation, education, and enterprise in sustainable wood use. Established by the Sylva Foundation, the centre promotes a circular economy for British timber — connecting woodland management, design, and craftsmanship.
The site hosts Sylva Wood School which provides education and training including professional woodworking courses, and short courses suitable for all ages and skill levels.
Also on site is a community of wood-based businesses and craftspeople who design, make, and build with wood. These include bespoke furniture makers, boat builders, carpenters, wood sculptors, and eco-construction specialists. Shared workshop facilities, machinery, and studio spaces encourage collaboration and skill-sharing among tenants.
