Having originally concentrated on figurative painting, in recent years I have been exploring more abstract or semi-abstract subjects. Colour and texture have always been important in my work, and I frequently use collage and a variety of other drawing media, combining paint with other materials to see what unusual textures and effects can be produced. I am also developing my practice as a textile artist.
Visiting a couple of old friends last year, they coincidentally both spoke of how their allotments and gardens had preserved their sanity during the pandemic. Having always intended to do a project on the benefits and indeed joys of allotments, this was my incentive, my “synchronicity”, aided by the realisation that the theme was well suited to the mixed media techniques I now like to use in my work.
