Artist information

Becca is a fused glass artist based in Botley having moved from Surrey 4 years ago. She has been making her own glass since the start of 2020 and her style reflects a background in science and a working life spent telling stories with data. Inevitably, patterns feature strongly in her glass work, along with a fascination with straight lines and a desire to experiment with taming the tendency of hot flowing glass to fill voids. Becca enjoys talking to people about the process of fusing glass and welcomes people to her home studio so they can see what is involved.

Exhibition information

Over the past year Becca she has been drawing inspiration from the textiles produced by a number of contemporary weavers whose work she loves, and developing the strip cut technique she uses most to allow fused glass to reflect some of the patterns found in these textiles. Another strand of experimentation has been taking strip cut pieces and putting them under pressure to blur the original patterns, giving the effect of a watery scene or a more ephemeral pattern. Becca has also continued to play with creating fused glass that echoes the patterns found in gel dna electrophoresis, making visible patterns that are not normally visible to the naked eye.
