Exhibition information
Hello. Following on from the success of your exhibition in 2025 I am returning the to beautiful church at Aynho site 231 alongside 7 fabulous artists. Set in the ‘Apricot village’ there will be a very warm welcome to all of our visitors. There will be new work to see alongside scrummy tea and cake…
Over the last year I have been continuing to explore the flora and fauna surrounding my garden studio and am delighted that I will be bring new work alongside some favourites to the Church. My piece called ‘boat’ (first image in my portfolio) has been selected by the organiser’s of Oxfordshire Artweeks to appear as lamppost flags around the city of Oxford so keep your eyes peeled. Also new to this years collection are my Hare jugs. I do love a hare they are so majestic and I could watch them for hours. I look forward to seeing you at Aynho or at any of the other events I am involved with.
Artist information
I have been a studio potter for over 20 years and gave up the day job in 2005 to launch my business Penny Varley Ceramics. My garden studio is my haven and I love nothing more that to spend my time there experimenting and going through the process of creating my work. Every day is different. I may be trying out new ideas, glazing, adding handles, more coils to a coil pot or unloading the kiln and hoping that the kiln gods have been kind.
Teaching pottery has been a source of great pleasure. Enabling adults to take some time out of their busy schedule, relax and play with clay is a wonderful feeling. Their creations can be a mixed bag but everyone creates something that is unique to them. Why not give it a go.
I take part in lots of arts and crafts events over the year. Oxfordshire Artweeks, Warwickshire Open Studios, Arts in the Cotswold, Artmix and I regularly exhibit at both Chipping Campden and Lower Slaughter. The anticipation about taking part in a show and displaying your work to the public can be a nervous business but I love the buzz of meeting new people and explaining more about how the work has made.
