Artist information
I took up drawing and painting in childhood and studied art to A level. Although tempted by a place at Newport Art College, I opted to study at Oxford School of Town Planning, which fitted well with my interest in the physical environment. Oxford itself became an inspiration, such that I spent vacations drawing the University colleges and other landmarks, selling finished works to the growing number of international visitors. Prints of my work are available.
My drawing skills were useful during my working life as a chartered town planner and I continued to draw for pleasure in my spare time. However, since my retirement I have returned to painting, primarily in oils.
Exhibition information
Mine is figurative art. I am inspired by urban and village structure and rural and coastal settings to find interesting visual compositions. The enclosure of space by buildings and landscape, together with the impact of sunlight, features in much of my work. My subjects are found locally as well as from places much farther away.
