Although I enjoy painting still life in my studio my preferred area of work is outdoors in all seasons. I am a plein air painter working directly from the subject. For me the challenge is changing light and the decision whether to work in the morning or afternoon light. I am fascinated by tree structure particularly in the winter and I have worked for several years in Blenheim where the trees are so inspiring.
In summer my garden provides inspiration, also the allotments at the end of the lane where sunflowers and dahlias mix with the vegetables and I am always made welcome by the allotment holders.
At sixteen I studied at Sheffield College of Art before moving to London to the Slade School of Fine Art where i studied under Sir William Coldstream, Patrick George and a young Lucien Freud. At that time teaching drawing was paramount so for me drawing is fundamental to painting and this is reflected in my work.
i have exhibited widely including the RA Summer show, the Royal West of England Academy, Birmingham Royal Society of Artists and Lynn Painter Stainers Exhibition in the Mall Gallery. I have had several solo exhibitions in London, Birmingham, Durham and Oxford. My work is held in public collections listed in the Public Catalogue Foundation www. bbc.co.uk/art/your paintings
I have been a member of Artweeks since the 1990s and have met many interesting people. Anyone wishing to see my paintings permanently displayed in my Studio outside of Artweeks North dates are welcome to contact me on 01993 850139 or 07790699023 at any time.
