MANJA SCOTT
Manja was born in Zagreb in 1945 and trained to be a contemporary dancer and choreographer in the Laban method. She travelled with her parents to Zambia in 1966, where she lived raising a family while teaching, choreographing and performing at the local theatre. She was inspired by African art and craft, and started making wall hangings and textiles using wax resist methods and simple printmaking. In 1982 the family moved to the UK where Manja briefly studied at Brighton Polytechnic (combined arts) and then Eastbourne College of Art (printed textiles). This took her on to a career of printed textile design, selling designs to the fashion industry all over the world. Through this she accumulated a knowledge, interest and fascination with different techniques and use of a wide range of materials. Around 1998 she retired from the textiles business and concentrated on printmaking, painting and drawing, exhibiting work in galleries and in her home. She has been showing work at Artweeks Visual Art Festival most years since 1998.
In this exhibition she is showing mostly abstract work in order to complement and contrast with Jeff’s figurative imagery.
