Following Artweeks, you will find me at the Langford Art Festival on he 11th and 12th of June. I also will be having open days at my home studio in Bibury from time to time . You are most welcome to contact me should you wish to "drop in" for a chat and a cup of tea!
I am an artist with a foot in two countries, South Africa, my birthland and England my home.
These two spaces are clearly evidenced in my choice of subject matter. I simply paint what I am moved to paint, basking in the beauty and diversity of both spaces.
Currently living in Bibury, in the heart of the Cotswolds, provides me with endless inspiration. The verdant hillsides, spectacular skies and the those quintessentially English gems I stumble upon in day to day life. At the same time, I transcend the cold and grey days by painting African scenes, filled with sunshine, warmth, open spaces and nostalgia.
Painting in oils is my love. I tend to use a watercolour technique, painting from light to dark in many, many layers of glazing. Whilst the process is slow, the excitement lies in alternating warm and cool glazes and magically seeing details emerge. I find supreme joy in small detail, hoping to create an “aha” moment, an inner smile of recognition, for those who come across my work.
I hope to continue to traverse the two countries painting scenes of Africa’s vast spaces, flora, fauna and soulful people whilst simultaneously exploring England in all her resplendent finery, things both great and small….
