Exhibition information
I produce decorative and functional pieces, in the form of bowls and vases, both wheel thrown and hand built. I enjoy experimenting with form, design, pattern, and colour. I use the technique of paper resist, where hand-cut paper shapes are applied to the pot before glazing. I am currently experimenting with sgraffito and slip design. Each piece is individual and I tend not to decide on the decoration until the form is in front of me. I have recently exhibited at the Heseltine Gallery in Banbury.
Artist information
I studied pottery at secondary school and after a career as a cardiac physiologist, I was drawn back to ceramics and have been hooked ever since. The technical process of manually producing images of the heart using ultrasound can be directly compared to the dexterity and precision used in creating decorative pots. Intuitively, I am drawn to symmetrical and ordered pattern, which lends my pots an Art Deco feel. I am a fan of our beautiful coastline and visit whenever I can, so it is no surprise that I also derive inspiration from water and sea.
