Exhibition information

This series was inspired by my spiritual journey, particularly retreats at Spirit Horse in Wales. The Red Temple captures the heart of this powerful and vital place where us humans toil away looking for God while outside nature glows with life and majesty. We look deep into the eyes of another continually questioning “who am I?”. The troubled water, that I used for inspiration, was photographed in the stream there, and feels like my busy brain when I’m feeling disconnected from the universe and lost to the mad rantings of my mind.

I work mostly in charcoal, with some pastels, on large sheets of coloured paper (all A1 in this series except water which is A2). I like going in close, I love capturing the interesting details of humans, and I love the play of light and shadow so it creates drama and weight.

Artist information

I grew up loving making things and that passion grew as I studied Fine Art, but then I became disillusioned by the art world. I loved the craft and at that time that didn’t feel valued. I sadly stopped making and joined the corporate world.

For twenty years I barely created and then suddenly a spiritual awakening unlocked my creativity and now I’m back to doing what I love!
