Artist information
Kat Foxhall is a printmaker based in Uffington, Oxfordshire. I am a member of Oxford Printmakers Co-operative and I create original hand-printed etchings in limited editions. The process of inking the plate each time ensures that each piece is a unique piece of art.
My etchings start as a piece of roofing zinc. After carefully polishing the plate, a design is etched onto the metal, using acids and wax resists. After experimenting with colours and papers, each individual print is hand-wound through either my own press at home, or at the OPC workshop. I love the different processes that turn a sheet of bare metal into a beautiful design - full of lines, shade and texture.
I grew up in rural Devon, where I spent hours exploring the overgrown woodlands that hid the old arsenic and copper mine workings of the Tamar Valley. My work still takes much of its inspiration from the contrasts of nature and the layers of history and human impact on the landscape - from ancient chalk figures to modern wind turbines and pylons, from humble bees to vast night skies.
