Exhibition information

My images are created using the 19th century wet plate collodion process – striking images on tin (reversed) or on glass. These silver images are likely to last for over 200 years – as the originals, created by photographers such as Roger Fenton, Mathew Brady and Frank Meadow Sutcliffe are as sharp today as when they were struck. The process of creating these images takes time – exposures of up to 30 seconds are not unheard of… they are the antithesis of ‘snaps’ – that’s why I enjoy making them.

Artist information

I have been captivated with photography ever since my father showed me an image appear miraculously on a sheet of white paper under a darkroom red light. Starting as a darkroom printer on a small town newspaper and ending up on Fleet Street, news photography held my attention, then magazine photography and now, full circle, back to silver. The wet plate process I now practice was used, amongst others, by the newsmen of their age…this is what first piqued my interest.
