Exhibition information
This is my forth time taking part in Oxfordshire Artsweeks and I am very excited to be exhibiting at West Ox Arts. It is such a fabulous space.
I really enjoying making colourful drop or gravity bowls. This involves fusing a flat ’tile’ of glass which can be created using a mixture of powdered and sheet glass. These tiles are then re-fused on top of a ‘doughnut’ shaped mold allowing the bowl to form by dropping via gravity through the hole in the mold as the heat increases. Finally rim needs to be removed and the surface shaped and polished. The use of powders enables patterning, texture and shade variation not possible using sheet glass alone.
Please come along and see our exhibition in the beautiful, historic village of Bampton.
Artist information
My work explores the colours and textures of this beautiful, light filled media.
I started working with glass by making leaded-glass panels about 25 years ago. Then 15 years ago I was lucky enough to have a studio built in the garden, which enabled me to get a kiln so I could also experiment with fused glass. This opened up whole new avenues of possibilities – I don’t believe that I will ever stop being excited by learning about and making glass art. No two pieces ever turn out the same, each is unique.
Currently I am creating decorative fused bowls using powdered and sheet glass to explore colours, patterns and texture. Glass like no other media allows the reflection and transmission of light, enhancing the vibrant colours. Before retiring I worked as a research scientist, now I experiment in glass – the possibilities are endless.
