Artist information

Welcome to my colourful world! I hope that you enjoy the relationship between areas of colour and pattern as much as I do.

Colour entered my life in a meaningful way whilst at University during three weeks in Paris visiting galleries and museums. I was introduced to artists such as Matisse, Bonnard, Gauguin and Kandinsky to name just a few. I was also hugely influenced by Terry Frost, our professor of art at the time.

Although I moved away from painting for many years that passion for colour continued in my work as I started up my garden design and landscaping business. After a successful career for 20 years, I finally returned to my painting and have been on a joyful if sometimes frustrating journey ever since.

I work in a number of different media including oils, acrylics, collage and ceramics. My inspiration comes from my local Downland landscape, boats and harbours in Cornwall, the curves of the female form and, most recently, characterful buildings and streets in Rovinj, Croatia. Colour and pattern continue to form an intrinsic part of my creativity and I find producing work a physical and instinctive experience.

Exhibition information

I am opening my house, garden and studio and will be joined by artist Mandy Monkcom and sculptor Anthony Lloyd.
