Exhibition information
My photographs are a selection from a work in progress, Images, perhaps. They’re intended as provocations to help writers develop their practice, and were selected to have no obvious narrative so as to force the writer to interact with them imaginatively rather than simply describing them.
The photographs were made using mechanical cameras on film which I developed myself. I scanned and edited the images digitally but I have avoided the use of techniques not available in the traditional dark room, such as advanced Photoshop or generative AI: what you see in the pictures is present on the negatives.
The prints in the exhibition are responses to, or variations on, the photographs. Monoprinting allows you to create a negative or ghost print of an image, and I used this technique to mimic the positive / negative aspect of camera film.
