Artist information
Hong is a self-taught traditional watercolourist, where light and shadow are the central themes of his paintings. He endeavours to capture the subtle nuances and dramatic contrasts found in nature and everyday life. Hong's artistic journey is complemented by a career in science. He studied Biology at university, after which he obtained a PhD in Microbiology and later became a professor of Environmental Sciences. In his career, Hong worked at Oxford University as well as other institutions, including the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology. He is recently retired from his professional career in science and now enjoys spending his free time pursuing painting and travelling with family and friends.

Hong became an eager hobby artist after moving to Oxfordshire, where the unique sceneries of the county have been a constant source of inspiration—Hong endeavors to capture the subtle nuances and dramatic contrasts found in nature and everyday life.
