Artist information
I originally trained in textile design at Falmouth College of Arts and have worked as a freelance textile designer for fashion, before becoming a secondary school art teacher. In 2018 I left teaching to change my career & take over my family's plant nursery in Brightwell.
Working within in the surroundings of the nursery I am very inspired by everything around me, specifically birds, flowers, plants and insects. The nursery focuses on being as sustainable as possible & taking this concept I like to research & focus on endangered species or insects which are are not considered important in the garden. I use traditional techniques to create my initial drawings & sketches using pencils, colouring pencils, inks, chalk pastels. I then scan them into Photoshop to add details and work further into each drawing, eventually creating the designs and making them into fine art prints and prints for textiles like furnishing fabrics, cushions and aprons.
Exhibition information
My father & I are exhibiting for the first time, sharing the space as part of ArtWeek at Winterbrook Garden Nurseries. I have previously exhibited at the Peacock Gallery at Maiden Erlegh School back in 2012 but have not exhibited since changing career.
The exhibition will be in a former greenhouse and should make a lovely, informal space for my new set of prints and my fathers' folk inspired hand built ceramics. I hope that showing within the nursery setting will help visitors understand my thoughts and processes about my work.
We will be around to chat to, as we both work at the nursery.
My original sketchbooks and drawings will be on display as part of the exhibition.
We are very excited to be part of the ArtWeek as it has been on bucket list for many years, since visiting many other artists on the trail years gone by.
