Fi Hunter Bio
Working from my studio an old corner shop in Marlow I create sculptures for galleries, art fairs and bespoke commissions. Self taught, I have learnt not just sculpting in clay, but mould making, wax casting and casting in various materials including bronze, stone, iron and resin. I also develop my own unique recipes and include recycled glass, ground shells, as well as dried foliage collected from the banks of the Thames. I make a point of using sustainable and non toxic materials and recently created a bio sculpture 3D printed in wood pulp and sugar.
My sculptures explore the fragility and strength of the human condition as well as the human relationship to the natural world. I relate this back to the viewer not just through the human expression, but also through the materials themselves. Fascinated by weathering cycles I experiment with purposefully braking down my surfaces. Sometimes using unusual methods including boiling, acid etching and leaving sculpture in the rain to rust. I push the materials to reveal and show their qualities and weaknesses.
My sculptures can be seen at several galleries and sculpture parks across the country as well as as featuring at various Art Fairs.
