Exhibition information
My work this year is a celebration of the sky’s ever-changing tapestry of clouds and the striking landscapes which stretch beneath.
Walking through the Oxfordshire countryside with my dog, Clem, come rain or shine, I am inspired daily by our vast, ever-changing skyline. Clouds roll by, carriers of light and shadow, constantly transforming the world above us and landscape below.
Never one to hurry, Clem likes to take his time – a sniff of the air, a slow stroll through the fields and maybe even a lie down, encouraging me to slow down and enjoy the present moment. He certainly gives me ample opportunity to stop and take in the views.
I really enjoy capturing such moments, taking them home to begin the meticulous process of whittling out definition and shape, line by line, and using deliciously silky inks to recreate them in my work. I welcome you to pause and reflect on the beauty of clouds.
Most of my prints are made using the reduction process, a method of creating multi-coloured prints using only one block of material (linoleum) the block is progressively destroyed (reduced) during the process, making it impossible to reprint the same design later.
Artist information
After studying traditional art and design for 5 years under the renowned practicing artists and lecturers – Richard Scott, Ken Roberts and Malcolm Moseley, I left Ipswich School of Art, with both a degree and a passion for printmaking.
I have dedicated many subsequent years to developing my work, observing nature’s beauty on my own doorstep, perfecting drawings before embarking on the printmaking journey of each piece of work. I love the detail, the precision and the intricate thought process which goes into recreating my drawings with delicate carving, building the image layer upon layer.
I have exhibited my work on numerous occasions, in Suffolk, Oxfordshire and the West Midlands with Birmingham Society of Artists. Since moving to Oxfordshire in 1998, I have met many interesting and talented local artists and I’m really excited to be joining them for the wonderful Artweeks exhibitions.
