Exhibition information

My unique approach with ceramics reveals the poetry of archetypal forms through textural interventions. Working in an improvisational and expressionistic style with meandering and woven texture, the vessel form is revealed, concealed, embraced and transformed by the applied surface texture. Slip, underglaze and glaze play an important part in the composition adding tonal layers that highlight and obscure aspects of the texture and form. Each vessel is an investigation where no surface is the same and no two works are alike as each piece seems to lead on to another inquiry in different clay bodies, texture and glaze combinations. The final works of art are dynamic vessel sculptures as the viewer is constantly discovering a new detail within the work. I am an active member of the Oxfordshire Craft Guild and regularly exhibits my work at craft and ceramics fairs as well as exhibitions across the UK.

Artist information

I have always been passionate about pottery, I practiced it as a hobby since my childhood and I voraciously collected and studied it throughout my life. Though predominately self taught, I have been mentored by Alison Jones since 2020 who has supported me as an artist and provided me with opportunities to explore different techniques, firing methods and materials. In conjunction with my studio practice, I run Bernwood Pottery which not only makes ceramic pieces for the home but it also helps to bring clay and pottery to the community through workshops and events. In our increasingly polarised and digitalised society we are disconnected from making with our own two hands. I endeavour to remedy that by helping people connect to their creative voice and to one another by bringing them together through creative events and clay workshops and socials. Connect through creativity!
